Q. 2001 - Downloading PAT1000S / PAT1000X to PATS
A.
Downloading a PAT tester successfully is dependent upon a) the software having the correct settings, b) the correct download lead and c) the correct procedure.
PAT1000X
- a) SOFTWARE
Set up screen 5.4 of PATS/PATS+ software to:
Baud rate 1200
Parity 0
Stop bits 2
Data bits 8
Upper section of screen only. Since these testers cannot receive data from a PC there is no need to set the lower section of the screen.
If you don't see this on screen 5.4 then you have an earlier version of the software. No action is required as earlier versions default to these values.
- b) CABLE
THE MOST LIKELY CAUSE OF NOT BEING ABLE TO DOWNLOAD IS THE CABLE
The cable required to download is dependent on whether the RS232 serial port on the computer is 9 way or 25 way. Our testers ONLY download to an RS232 serial port. The in/output port on the tester is 9 way.
The Seaward part number is:
9-9 way computer cable 194A907
9-25 way computer cable 194A903
If you are unsure if your download cable is correct or you wish to adapt or make your own cable then refer to the wiring configuration below:
9-9 way 9 Pin Male (Tester) 9 Pin Female (PC)

Then retype the Test number.
At the PC, from the main menu select 3.
In screen 3 (Communicate with Portable Appliance Tester) select 3.
If there is a previously generated Input/Error report, you will be prompted to print it.
Complete screen 3.3 (Download from Portable Appliance Tester and Update History).
If you enter the PAT serial number, it will assume that there is a record for the PAT tester in the Equipment Register (screen 1). Information on the use of the PAT serial number is in the
PATS software manual in the Equipment Register Equipment Records section. An entry in the PAT serial number box is not mandatory, and this box can be skipped.
Then Page Down.
The PC screen will show: Waiting ...
At this point go IMMEDIATELY to the Tester and press YES.
The download should commence.
If you still experience difficulty downloading. Then trying downloading to another serial port on the PC.
The most likely cause of not being able to download is the cable, please check that it is correct (see 2 above).
