Downloading a PAT tester successfully is dependent upon a) the software having the correct settings, b) the correct download lead and c) the correct procedure.
a) SOFTWARE
Only Test Instruments that are registered with the program can be downloaded. The PATGuard software has the correct coms settings embedded for each PAT Tester that can download to this program. Please note that only PAT Testers available in the Test Instrument drop down list can download to PATGuard.
b) DOWNLOAD LEAD
THE MOST LIKELY CAUSE OF NOT BEING ABLE TO DOWNLOAD IS THE CABLE.
Currently the PATGuard program will only accept download to an RS232 serial port (COM port).
There are two download leads available:
9-9 way (Part No. 194A919)
9-25 way (Part No. 194A920)
The data in/output port on the PAT tester is 9 pin. Serial ports on PCs are either 9 pin or 25 pin. If you have the wrong type of lead then a 9 to 25 way adapter can be used.
If you are unsure if your download lead is correct or you wish to adapt or make your own cable then refer to the wiring configurations below:

The most likely cause of not being able to download is the cable, please check that it is correct see b) Download Lead above.
If PATGuard has any problems processing the data it will create a Site called “Unassigned” appended with the date and time. All of the tests which can’t be processed will be located in this Site.
