Earth Continuity 6mm cable

Postby contender1 » Fri Feb 03, 2017 9:34 am

Hi Guys I could really do with some help I have been asked to test all the 415 V equipment on site and I'm not sure about a few things

From my understanding any piece of equipment that has a plug on it is still needs to be tested even if its a large stationery piece of equipment for instance a cardboard baler?

I have been encountering equipment with 6mm cable fitted, my problem is i use the inbuilt calculator to work out the pass rate for the earth continuity based on the CSA and length of the cable but the calculator only goes up to 4mm so how do i find out the pass rate for 6mm cable. I have looked online and I still cant find an answer for this.

For anyone who may be interested or have the same problem I've now worked out how to do this.

The resistance per meter for cable with a CSA of 1mm is 0.0195 ohms.

So for 6mm cable complete the following calculations:-

so for 6mm cable the allowance per metre in ohms is 0.00325 ohms

so the formula would be (0.1+(cable length x 0.00325))

0.1 being the allowance for the equipment which is standard
