Definitive Soft Test

Hi

Can somebody tell me the exact procedure and values for carrying out class 1 "soft tests" on IT equipment as im being told conflicting information

I don't think it's a very 'definitive' term but the Cop refers to 2 types of 'soft test' you might use for IT equipment if you're afraid of damaging it. (I only use them infrequently as the normal tests, replacing the 500V insulation test with a 250V one if surge protection is suspected, don't cause damage if used appropriately).

The 'soft' earth continuity test uses low current of between 20mA and 200mA, typically 100mA. You are recommended to wiggle the flex during the test.

The 'soft' insulation assessment replaces the 500V insulation test with an earth leakage current or touch current test.

Just as you are with the 'hard' earth continuity test as well... :)
