I am used to testing IR @ 250V for surge-protected appliances, but do not know when to use the Substitute Leakage test.
I know that the Substitute Leakage test is suggested to be used when a full Insulation Resistance Test would be inappropriate, but in what circumstances would that be?
Can anyone suggest particular items of equipment that should be tested using this method rather than an Insulation Resistance test?
And similarly with the Protective Conductor / Touch Current Measurement. What particular appliances would be tested using this method rather than an Insulation Resistance test?
I wish the COP and similar guidance materials would give specific examples, rather than just use the wording "This ... is an alternative .... where the insulation test is inappropriate". How can we determine if a test is inappropriate if we are not given guidance on what to look out for in our pre-test assessment of appliances?
