A little advice please

Postby edutech » Wed Aug 17, 2011 12:10 pm

Refrigerator display units with 4 wires. Blue, Brown, Yellow/green and Black.

The Black wire has been cut away at the plug end and not connected. The others are terminated conventially.

What is the purpose of the black wire and is the unit safe to use without it.?

No real help from the internet. One suggestion is that the unit is a 2 phase 110v appliance.

We have no other information (manuals etc).

Advice appreciated.

Open up at the fridge end, and see if the black wire is connected inside the appliance

Hi Edutech

It is possible that this could have been configured for 3 phase 240v. However in this situation, I would recommend that you speak to the manufacturers of the unit under test to get the full picture.

The manufacturer is the ultimate authority on the PAT testing of their equipment.
