Figure 8 leads!

Postby gaz » Tue Jun 07, 2011 12:04 pm

I have just had to test a figure 8 lead for the first time (yes I am new to PAT) I am using a primetest 350 and a C8 to C13 adaptor for the testers IEC socket to complete a lead test circuit.
what test should i be doing for this lead? it cant be the IEC one as thats for class 1 and a figure 8 can only be class 2. do i have to write a test sequence? if so what should it be?

just found the answer myself at ... of-eight-m

However, I would say that the answer given in the Seaward FAQ is pretty pointless regarding the insulation resistance test on an IEC C7 lead.
Unless you did indeed have any 'suspect joints in the enclosure' (hardly likely), performing an IR test on such a lead would be a waste of time, IMHO.
I would suggest that there are NO meaningful electrical tests that can be carried out on a C7 lead, just the formal visual inspection.
And a C8 to C13 adaptor serves no purpose in this scenario at all.
