The Earth bond lead can fit into socket 1 or 2 of my Europa Plus. Which socket number do I use and when?

Well, as stated on page 7 of the Europa Plus instruction manual, socket 1 is the 'Main Earth Bond/Insulation socket', and would be used for Class I earth bond tests (apart from lead/extension earth bond tests), and Class II insulation resistance tests.
Socket 2 is called the 'Aux Earth Bond Connector', but unfortunately the manual then completely fails to mention it again.
It does have a symbol next to it that looks a bit like a clamp meter, but that's just a guess.

Maybe someone from Seaward might be able to enlighten us as to its usage, seeing as the manual cannot.

Apparently not.

Well you make yourself up a second self-nulling earth bond lead then you can do point to point earth tests in manual mode using both sockets/leads.

Hi Agro

Sorry for the delay in replying.
As Patnik mentioned, this is a second probe socket that will allow you to do point to point earth bond measurements. To do this, again as mentioned, you will need to use your Europa Plus in manual mode.

If you require an additional lead please see the following link:

Thanks for your input Patnik and Grizzly.

Why is this information and method not covered at all in the product instruction manual?

Hi Grizzly - fair comment. The point to point measurement is mentioned in the manual in the section on Multiple Earth Connections but it could be clearer and more prominent.

The Aux Earth Bond Connector is connected to the protective earth terminal of the mains test socket. When an Earth bond test is performed, the Europa will measure the resistance between the Earth Bond test clip and protective earth terminal in the mains test socket or the Aux Earth Bond test clip is a second lead is connected i.e. there is not a seperate point to point measurement mode or function. Point to point (or probe to probe as some people refer to it) measurements can be made in manual mode but this feature can also be used in automatic mode.

The Europa has been discontinued and so the operating instructions will not be reprinted but we will produce an application note giving clearer guidance on point to point measurement.
