Hi,
I am using the PremeTest100.
Would like to confirm whether the supplied earth test lead should be used according to the manual for a class II products as it has no earth wire. Refer to the manual, it definitely needs to be used but my customer said the earth clamp should not be fitted to the pat tester and defiantly not connected to the tested unit when testing class 2 (no earth) units. so what purpose of using this lead for the class II products ?

Thanks and looking forward to a prompt reply.
Regards,
Hyman

It is used for performing the insulation resistance test on Class II appliances.
As any exposed metalwork on a Class II appliance will not be connected to earth, the test lead is used as a 'virtual earth' for the purposes of the IR test, in order to be able to measure the resistance between the exposed metalwork, and the appliance's live parts. If you did not attach the test lead, you would mostly be measuring the resistance of the air around the tester!
It also plays a similar role if you perform the Class II Leakage Current test.
Please follow the instructions in the manual, as your customer doesn't seem to have a clue what they are talking about.
