Job Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Produce Technical Specification from Product Requirement Specification.
  • Develop products that work first time, meeting tight timescales and budget.
  • Ensure the product design meets the applicable standards, safety and legal requirements and is in accordance with the Seaward quality manual.
  • Ensure that all documentation produced for each project undertaken is of a level that can be clearly understood and provides sufficient details.
  • Undertake technical and risk assessments of information and situations arising.
  • Liaise and manage external design resources.
  • Liaise with production and purchasing in ensuring the product is designed for assembly and test, to assist in phasing in the new product to production.
  • Produce project plans and estimations.



  • Electronics Engineer degree or equivalent minimum.
  • Hardware/PCB design for high speed digital circuits.
  • Hardware design for high voltage circuits.
  • Hardware design for high precision and low noise analogue circuits.
  • Designing for low power consumption and for small space-volumes.
  • Understanding of safety critical design.
  • A willingness to acquire the technical knowledge about new products is essential.


  • Embedded software design C, C++ and QT etc.
  • LabView development.
  • Some experience of Linux or Unix.
  • Experience in ISO9000 environment.
  • Understanding of basic electrical and electronic parameters – e.g. measurements of resistance, voltage, current, insulation; 17th edition testing useful.

Job title: Senior Buyer

Job purpose

To participate as a member of the Seaward operations team, driving the purchasing department in achieving the performance indicators as required by Seaward.

Responsible for the procurement of materials and services as required by the needs of the business.

Responsible for the supply of materials in line with the requirements of both our internal and external customers.

The senior buyer will be expected to have the stature to deliver the strategic objectives of the company and represent the business to the outside world as and where appropriate.

Hard Data


  • For meeting stock targets as set in the business plan (revised yearly)
  • For achieving Purchase Price Reduction as set in the business plan (revised yearly)
  • Maintain at all times a high standard of work and safety in accordance with Seaward Electronic Ltd policies and procedures.
  • Ensure that a safe environment is maintained within the factory.
  • Report and act upon any complaints, accidents or incidents both internal and external.
  • Participate in training programmes and act as a mentor as required.
  • Take responsibility for personal development in relation to change in management and procedures.
  • Lead the purchasing team in achieving both cost reductions and stock reduction as required by the business.
  • Maintain a clear and tidy work environment.
  • Ensure that all products manufactured / assembled is in accordance with Seaward’s quality standards.
  • Ability to produce accurate work while meeting volume targets.

  • Introduce bottom line productivity improvement within the purchasing department.
  • To achieve significance cost reductions on current purchase prices paid.
  • To be seen as leader of the stock reduction program within the business.


  • As set down in the business plan (yearly)
  • To be responsible for the performance development of all staff within the department in accordance with company guidelines
  • To reduce stock in line with company expectations
  • Ensure that Seaward utilise the global markets, to achieve the best possible purchase price
  • To run on a yearly basis a vendor scheme that demonstrates a clear performance critea expected from our suppliers

Knowledge, Skills & Experience

  • To been seen as a leader within the business and be capable of generating respect to ensure that all members of the company recognise the importance of the purchasing function within the business.
  • Must be numerate and able to use statistics to demonstrate performance and progress.
  • Good communication skills both written and verbal.
  • Ability to motivate and lead a team to achieve departmental KPI's.
  • Ability to work with the manufacturing team in the achievement of departmental KPI's.
  • Ability to work in a demanding area of the business.
  • The ability to work without direct supervision.
  • IT literate.
  • A working knowledge of health and safety at work regulations.
  • A working knowledge of current best practice and the tools/techniques used in purchasing and supply chain management.
  • Ability to demonstrate practical use of the above to add value to the organisation.
  • Understanding of how corporate strategy links to functional strategy.
  • Clear understanding of the contribution that purchasing and supply can make to corporate competitiveness and ‘best value’ for public sector organisations.

Location: North West - East Midlands
Reports Direct: Service Manager

Job Purpose:

  • To test, calibrate and adjust a wide range of test equipment on customers premises.
  • To follow documented procedures accurately.
  • To have a knowledge of specifications and measuring units used.
  • To carry out first line repairs and maintenance on customers premises
  • To liaise with repair staff regarding faulty items.
  • To liaise admin staff regarding customer contact/requirements.
  • To carry out calibration work back at base if required.

Hard Data:

  • To provide detailed calibration certificates.
  • To source equipment specifications when necessary.
  • To look at ways of improving test techniques and increasing parameters.
  • To maintain high quality levels throughout.
  • To provide the administration team with timely data.
  • To maintain a professional attitude at all times.
  • To keep a tidy and well ordered environment at all times.


  • Obtain product specifications and maintaining a suitable library facility.
  • Calibrate a wide range of multi-parameter test equipment.
  • Enter data correctly and update the on-site job system.
  • Ensure customers requirements are met.
  • Provide certificate details when calibration complete.
  • Display a professional attitude when in front of customers.
  • Synchronise data within designated timescales.
  • Accurately recording personal activity against KPI's.


HNC in electrical/electronics preferable
Suitable qualification is another physical parameter

Experience, Skills and Knowledge:

  • Previous experience is a field service role.
  • Experience within the Instrumentation Industry or previous calibration experience.
  • Sound knowledge of Microsoft Office.
  • Sound mathematical knowledge.
  • Meticulous.
  • Knowledge of quality standards/systems.
  • Good interpersonal skills.
  • Good self starter with tenacity and drive.
  • Target driven.
